Begin with the complete construction
A package may combine paperboard, wrap paper, adhesive, ink, foil, film, magnets, ribbon and an insert. A claim about one paper component does not automatically describe the finished package. List every component before deciding which environmental claim is supportable.
Define what “recyclable” means where the package is sold
Collection and processing systems differ by location. Ask whether consumers must remove windows, magnets, foam, ribbon or other components, and whether local programs accept the remaining paper structure. Avoid turning a design intention into an unconditional disposal claim.
Match certificates and test reports to the purchased material
Record the supplier, grade and specification covered by a document. PACKAVELLE publishes SGS reports for identified white paperboard samples and defined test scopes. Those reports should be checked against the board selected for an order and do not certify every finished package, fabric, coating or accessory.
Balance material reduction with protection
Using less material is helpful only when the package still protects the product and reaches the customer in usable condition. Damage and replacement shipments can undermine the intended improvement. Prototype the filled pack and review the likely handling route.
Ask for precise language
Useful claims identify the component and condition: for example, a named paper grade with documentation available for review. Broad phrases such as “100% eco-friendly” are difficult to substantiate and can conceal mixed materials or local disposal limits.
A current industry discussion
A 2026 r/Packaging discussion considers recyclability, compostability and performance. It is an informal discussion, not a standard or scientific survey. For a real project, identify the destination market and intended use, then review relevant material documentation.
